An Anindilyakwa-led boarding college for students in Years 3 to 6.
Wurriyukwayuwa-langwa College exists to support the sovereignty of Anindilaykwa people to take control of the education of wurriyukwayuwa (our children).
Our school is an accredited independent college registered by the Northern Territory Department of Education and Training. We centre our teaching on the "Our Country Our Culture" program, which ensures that the Australian Curriculum is implemented in a way that puts our culture and language first.
Our curriculum is based on eight topics:
- Bush Plants
- Water
- Animals
- People
- Seasons
- Country
- Songs and Dance
- History
Our college buildings are currently under construction, and students will join us at the college in 2027. In the meantime, our teachers are partnered with the local schools to deliver language lessons and on-country programs for our young people.
You can currently visit the Groote Eylandt Bickerton Island Primary College Aboriginal Corporation website to learn more about our college, its aims and objects, and our curriculum.
We look forward to the opportunity for Warnumamalya to have a greater role in the education of wurriyukwayuwa. This is an exciting time for the peoples of the Groote Eylandt Archipelago.
Please follow us on social media for updates on our work and on the construction of the college.
The college is due to open in 2027, but our work has already begun! We are currently implementing the Our Country, Our Culture learning-on-country program, are undertaking the training of our Anindilyakwa Language Teachers and are implementing the playgroup program.
Great things are happening!
